National Identity Verification

Mali's national identification document is the carte NINA (Numéro d'Identification Nationale), established under Law No. 06-040 of 11 August 2006. The NINA card functions as both a national identity card and a voter card, and its identification number is the standard reference for verification purposes.

Criminal Record Check

Mali's criminal-clearance document is the casier judiciaire, traditionally obtained in person from the criminal record office (casier judiciaire) of the relevant civil court (tribunal). Mali has introduced an online portal, casiercasier.gouv.ml, allowing the criminal record and the separate certificat de nationalité to be requested digitally, reducing the need for in-person tribunal visits for straightforward requests.

Employment & Education Verification

Employment and education verification is most reliable with employers and institutions based in Bamako. Mali has been under a military-led transitional government since 2021, and the security situation in parts of the northern and central regions continues to affect the pace and reliability of on-the-ground verification outside the capital — employers should build contingency time into screening timelines for candidates connected to those areas.

Data Protection & Consent

Screening in Mali is governed by Law No. 2013-015 of 21 May 2013 on the protection of personal data, enforced by the Autorité de Protection des Données à caractère Personnel (APDP). Employers should obtain and document candidate consent before initiating any screening that involves processing personal data of Malian nationals.
